Ramadan Campaigns Are a Season, Not a Slot

Ramadan Campaigns Are a Season, Not a Slot

Ramadan is the single most competitive advertising window in the region. It is also the one most often treated as a deadline rather than a season — briefed late, shot in a rush, and delivered into the noisiest month of the year hoping to be noticed.

The calendar is the strategy

Work backwards honestly. Broadcast and platform deliverables lock weeks before the first night. Post — grade, sound, versioning, subtitles for several markets — needs real time, not the time left over. Which means principal photography sits comfortably before the month begins, and pre-production starts in a period when the brief still feels early. Every campaign we have seen struggle got this one thing wrong.

Tone is the hard part

Ramadan advertising has a well-worn emotional register: family, table, generosity, return. It works, which is exactly why it is crowded. The spots that cut through usually do one specific thing rather than all of it — a single relationship, a single evening, one small act that does not need a voiceover to explain. Sentiment is cheap in this window. Specificity is not.

Build the versions into the shoot

A regional campaign is rarely one film. It is a hero, cutdowns, vertical, sometimes market-specific dialogue. Deciding that at the end is how you end up with a 9:16 version where the product sits outside the frame. Shoot with the crop in mind, capture the alternate reads on the day, and the versioning becomes an edit task instead of a reshoot.

Be ready to move

Consumption patterns shift through the month — the first week does not behave like the last ten nights. If media can adjust and you have the cutdowns ready, that flexibility is worth more than another thirty seconds of hero film nobody watches twice.
